The special support unit helps younger students build training pathways to achieve their education and employment goals.

The Youth Pathways Program (YPP) targets those at risk of leaving education. YPP officers work from the Youth Hubs on Elgar Campus (student lounge basement) and at the Whitehorse campus (Room W1.216).

Particular support is provided to students of the Institute’s suite of VCAL courses. Our pathways support helps keep VCAL students engaged through individual support, coaching and monitoring. They also help teachers deliver innovative applied learning projects which take the students into workplace and community settings.

A specialist Youth Worker supports younger students enrolled in Vocational Access and Education courses, particularly VCE.

Youth Pathways Program

The Youth Pathways Program supports young people between 15 and 19 to identify and develop goals and plans relating to education, training, employment and personal issues. Specialised support is available to help young students complete their course and achieve their goals.

Support can include individual or group assistance in:

  • identifying education, training and employment options
  • preparing résumés and letters
  • job seeking
  • developing a customised pathways plan (which outlines the training and support needed to achieve employment goals)
  • referrals to other support services.
