The college was established in 1965 and put on the National Register in 2003. The college is a general national and public run full-time college and is situated northeast of Guangdong, about 30 minutes from the city centre and 40 minutes from the airport.  The college is made up of two campuses and covers 111 acres.

GFDVC has become an authoritative vocational education centre in the fields of Medicine, Chinese Medicine, Food, Cosmetics, Medical Instrumentation, Marketing, Management and Biotechnology.  The college currently has an impressive faculty of in excess of 1,000 professors and teachers, many of whom hold doctorates and master degrees.  The facilities and equipment are of a high standard and their graduates are sort after to fill positions in Pharmaceutical and Laboratory Testing areas.  In fact, it has become the cradle for cultivating high-skilled technicians and managers in the management and medical fields.  They strive to assist all their students (approximately 9,000 full and part time) students to reach their full potential.
