The first 21 cadets enrolled in the Jobs Victoria Youth Cadetship Scheme (YCS) begin studying at Box Hill Institute this week.
Under the new scheme, the State Government will help 135 young Victorians forge a successful career in the public service through a two-year placement and a specialist Certificate IV in Government course.
The YCS was developed in in collaboration with the Community and Public Sector Union and Box Hill Institute has been contracted to deliver the Certificate IV in Government through the four year pilot program, via a combination of face-to-face and online/distance learning.
Minister for Industry and Employment, Wade Noonan, introduced the first cadets last week and said, “We want to give the next generation of public sector workers the skills they need for the jobs they want.
“Congratulations to the first 21 cadets involved in this scheme. They will go on to gain the training and experience needed to build meaningful, rewarding careers,” he said.
Box Hill Institute CEO Norman Gray also welcomed the cadets saying, “It’s a great opportunity to earn and learn at the same time and I’m sure you will all take advantage of this new scheme to establish yourselves in a public sector career.”
