The instructor-led Canoe Guide – Flat Water course will equip you with the skills and knowledge required to guide participants on day and or overnight canoeing trips on flat and undemanding water. The course focuses on determining the most appropriate deep water rescue for any given situation and applies during canoeing, kayaking and sea kayaking.

This course focuses on the application of planning skills to make suitable arrangements to lead a group on a canoeing trip. The course applies to those working as canoeing guides who are responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating day and or overnight canoeing trips on flat and undemanding water and is a pathway into a Certificate III or IV in Outdoor Recreation.

Students will have a focus on the demonstration of effective and efficient canoeing skills on flat and undemanding water.  This applies to those working as assistant flatwater canoeing guides or support staff under supervision in a range of controlled conditions.

The course will focus on determining the most appropriate deep water rescue for any given situation and applies during canoeing, kayaking and sea kayaking.  Development of skills and knowledge required to navigate in controlled environments where there are significant landmarks, under supervision, in controlled environments that are reliably marked on maps and are obvious on the ground, snow or in the water.

This course is particularly suitable for Scout Leaders and other Volunteer organisations that use Canoeing as a regular activity for children.

Participants will gain their Group D – Canoeing – Guide – Flat Water Unit Cluster enabling them to apply for Australian Canoeing Accreditation and membership. 

Successful completion will support students stepping into a Cert 3 or 4 Outdoor Recreation qualifications as transferable units to their course. 

This course is particularly suitable for Scout Leaders and other Volunteer organisations that use Canoeing as a regular activity for children.
