About the course

Develop a strong foundation in the appliance service industry. Our appliance service apprenticeship will provide you with practical and comprehensive training and all the skills you need to work in the appliance service industry. Under the leadership of current industry professionals you will learn:

  • to work safely in the appliance service industry
  • to handle and use refrigerants while servicing self-contained refrigeration and air conditioning appliances following prescribed routines
  • to use and work with drawings, diagrams, schedules, standard codes and specifications
  • to identify and document occupational health and safety hazards
  • to apply control measures
  • to problem solve, diagnose and rectify faults in the various control systems and motors of equipment such as refrigeration and air conditioning
  • to service small electrical appliances and power tools, refrigerators, clothes washing machines, and dryers
  • to source and purchase material/parts for service jobs
  • to provide quotations and deliver a service to customers

You must have completed Year 10 of education, or equivalent

School-based apprenticeships may also be available

APPRENTICESHIP ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 

To apply for this course, you must also be registered with an Australian Apprenticeship Support Network Provider and have a training contract with an employer.

PRE-TRAINING REVIEW

To assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs, Box Hill Institute will assess all students’ language, literacy and numeracy and digital literacy by asking you to undertake a self-assessment review prior to the enrolment.

A course advisor will discuss the outcomes of the review and make recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you, and identify additional support where required.

Pathways & Accreditation


Successful completion of this apprenticeship program will allow you to obtain your restricted electrical licence from Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) and a refrigeration handling licence from the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC). You'll also be able to apply for Class 2 - Class 1 disconnect/reconnect/fault finding licence and a full refrigerant handling licence.

This course is government accredited and has national recognition

The qualification is aligned with the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 3
