Be the barber you want to be. With our barbering course, you’ll gain the essential practical skills to create men’s traditional and modern hairstyles.

Our barbering course will provide you with a range of well developed sales, consultation and technical skills and knowledge to provide a broad range of barbering services to clients. You’ll learn to use discretion and judgement to provide client services and take responsibility for the outcomes of your own work.

In our barbering course you’ll learn how to:

  • create traditional and modern hair cutting structures
  • cut hair using the clipper and over-comb techniques
  • design tracks and carvings
  • shave heads and faces
  • shape beards and moustaches
  • provide general men’s grooming service

You must:

  • be at least 17 years of age (or be a mature age applicant)
  • have successfully completed Year 10 or equivalent
  • have a basic level of literacy and numeracy skills

Successful completion will enable you to enrol in our Diploma of Salon Management or apply for work as a barber in any industry environment, usually a barbershop or salon.

Direct entry

Recognition of Prior Learning is available.

This course is government accredited and has national recognition

The qualification is aligned with the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 3

After successful completion, you may wish to apply for a range of employment opportunities including;

  • working as a barber in a barbershop
  • men’s stylist/barber in a hairdressing salon.

26 units must be completed (including 21 core and 5 electives).
