Be the barber you want to be by enrolling in our barbering course where you’ll gain the essential practical skills to create men's traditional and modern hairstyles.

Our barbering course provides you with a range of well developed sales, consultation, and technical skills and knowledge to provide a broad range of barbering services to clients. You’ll learn to use discretion and judgement to provide client services and take responsibility for the outcomes of your own work.

Entry Requirements

You must:

  • be at least 17 years of age (or be a mature-age applicant)
  • have successfully completed Year 10 or equivalent
  • have a basic level of literacy and numeracy


To assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs, Box Hill Institute will assess all students’ language, literacy and numeracy and digital literacy by asking you to undertake a self-assessment review prior to the enrolment.

A course advisor will discuss the outcomes of the review and make recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you, and identify additional support where required.


Direct entry

Pathways & Accreditation

Successful completion will enable you to enrol in our Certificate III in Hairdressing, Diploma of Salon Management, or apply for work as a barber in any industry environment, usually a barbershop or salon

This course is government accredited and has national recognition

The qualification is aligned with the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 3
