About the course

This barbering apprenticeship will provide you with all the skills and knowledge to become a qualified barber.  You'll finish this training with new skills in sales, the art of consultation and the knowledge needed to provide a broad range of barbering services to clients.

You'll have access to many excellent learning resourcing, including the world renowned Pivot Point LAB resources and techniques.  In addition to this, you'll be using high quality online resources accessed through our Student Web platform, webinars and forums, along with a dedicated team of specialist teachers ready to give you that individual support and guidance needed to coach you through your training. 

Once completed, you will be able to use discretion and judgement to provide client services and take responsibility for the outcomes of your own work.

Part time: 1 - 2 years (the time taken to complete this course will vary depending on your input)

This course includes practical face to face classes on the tools, in our professional Barber shop. Classes are held either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday (depending on your work place requirements) 9am - 4pm. This allows you to work in industry on the remaining days of the week, whilst completing online theory work from home. 

This is a blended delivery course which will include a combination of online, remote and face to face delivery. Blended learning can involve a range of online programs and resources including StudentWeb, Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex, Skype, specific industry platforms, pre-recorded sessions, assigned reading, tutorials, discussion boards, and online activities. Blended learning also involves face-to-face attendance at classes or practical placements.

APPRENTICESHIP ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 

To apply for this course, you must also be registered with an Australian Apprenticeship Support Network Provider and have a training contract with an employer.

PRE-TRAINING REVIEW - to assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs, Box Hill Institute will assess all students’ language, literacy and numeracy and digital literacy by asking you to undertake a self-assessment review prior to the enrolment. A course advisor will discuss the outcomes of the review and make recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you, and identify additional support where required.

After successful completion you can apply for entry into Certificate III in Hairdressing or Diploma of Salon Management

This course is government accredited and has national recognition

The qualification is aligned with the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 3

This training is provided with funds made available by the Commonwealth and Victorian Governments.

In order to successfully complete this course you will be required to purchase a specific set of professional industry products and equipment. Upon enrolment you will receive a 'welcome letter' outlining detailed instructions on how and where to order your student kits (at student prices and through recommended suppliers). The kit is to be purchased separately to your course enrolment. Kits will be required from the first day of the course.
