Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care
Would you like to develop the skills and knowledge to work with children and families in a range of early childhood settings. Our early childhood education and care course is ideal for people who want to make a difference in the lives of young children and families.
In this course you’ll learn from experienced and supportive trainers and participate in extensive industry work placement. You gain the knowledge to:
- develop and implement play and educational programs
- support and guide children’s behaviour
- maintain a safe, clean and appealing environment
- assist in implementing policies and procedures in early childhood services
You may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning if you are currently working in early childhood and need to update your existing qualification to meet the current minimum qualification standards.

Intake for traineeships are at the commencement of each term
Full time: 6 months (Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm)
You should attend an information session.
You will be required to show evidence of a current Working with Children and National Police Check to participate in work placement and to apply for future employment opportunities. You should be physically fit, enjoy being with children, have patience, understanding, energy, adaptability and willingness to take responsibility.
Traineeship applicants must also
- be registered with an Australian Apprenticeship Centre and have a training contract with an employer
- or be employed in a registered early childhood education and care service for a minimum of 2 days a week
Successful completion can provide a pathway to the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.
This course is government accredited and has national recognition
The qualification is aligned with the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 3
After successful completion, you will be a qualified Early Childhood Educator (Level 3).
You may wish to apply for a range of career opportunities including:
- early childhood educator
- outside school hours care assistant
- play group supervisor
- recreation assistant
- family day care educator
- childcare educator/assistant
Completion of 18 units (including 15 core and 3 electives).
To be assessed as competent in this qualification you are required to undertake a minimum 120 hours supervised work placement in a registered education and care service , for example, long day care service, preschool,kindergarten and out of hours school care program.
Evidence provided by a workplace supervisor will contribute to assessment of your ability to work at this level.
