Would you like to provide nursing care or support nursing teams in acute care? In our health services course gain the skills and knowledge to establish your career in health.

After this health course, you’ll be ready to provide nursing care assistance in an acute care environment. You will also be able to support the nursing team under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse in an acute care setting.

Learn how to assist with the activities of daily living in acute care, including:

  • collecting client clinical data
  • shallow wound care
  • catheter care
  • assistance with breathing devices
  • completing workplace forms
  • selecting, cleaning and storing equipment

You’ll also develop a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, relating to:

  • infection prevention and control
  • workplace health and safety
  • client movement and transport
  • bed making
  • cultural diversity
  • workplace organisation
  • communication

PRE-TRAINING REVIEW

To assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs the Institute and CAE will assess all students’ language, literacy and numeracy and digital literacy by asking you to undertake a self-assessment review prior to the enrolment.

A course advisor will discuss the outcomes of the review and make recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you, and identify additional support where required.

On successful completion of this course you can apply for entry into the Diploma of Nursing.

The qualification is aligned with the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 3

After successful completion you may wish to apply for a range of employment opportunities including:

  • assisting in nursing
  • nursing assistant
  • patient care assistant
  • patient services assistant
  • ward assistant

Completion of 15 units (including 7 core and 8 electives). Electives include all Group B electives.

Students will complete all course units through on campus delivery with some work through flexible delivery over one semester.

All students must complete a minimum of 80 hours work placement within an acute care healthcare facility. During work placement, students will be required to complete specified tasks that are linked to the relevant Units of Competency under the direction of registered nurse.
