By completing our horticulture course, you’ll be creating your own pathway to a successful career in horticulture by enhancing your skills and knowledge in this fast-growing industry in and around the Yarra Valley and ranges.
In our horticulture course, you'll get hands-on practical learning experiences so you can master the art of operating chainsaws, identifying plants and demonstrating high-level nursery skills. Other important horticultural study areas include machinery operation, propagation and best-practice soil management.

Class days and times: Mondays to Wednesdays OR Wednesdays to Fridays 9am-4pm
This is a blended delivery course which will include a combination of online, remote and face to face delivery. Blended learning can involve a range of online programs and resources including StudentWeb, Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex, Skype, specific industry platforms, pre-recorded sessions, assigned reading, tutorials, discussion boards, and online activities. Blended learning also involves face-to-face attendance at classes or practical placements.

After successful completion of our horticulture course you can apply for a range of employment opportunities including that of a horticulturalist or gardener.
Our horticulture course has significant practical components with a focus on giving you the necessary skills and knowledge to create a successful pathway to employment.
To be eligible you must possess the basic communication skills and a physical ability to perform a practical work placement in the horticulture industry.
To assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs, Box Hill Institute will assess all students’ language, literacy and numeracy and digital literacy by asking you to undertake a self-assessment review prior to the enrolment.
A course advisor will discuss the outcomes of the review and make recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you, and identify additional support where required.
