By completing our horticulture course, you’ll be creating your own pathway to a successful career in horticulture by enhancing your skills and knowledge in this fast-growing industry in and around the Yarra Valley and ranges.
We are now offering the choice of two specialist streams in horticulture. You can choose to specialise in either landscaping or nursery and garden.
In the landscaping stream you will learn hands on skills in paving, concreting, timber structures as well as plant identification, pest and disease management, plant propagation and plant establishment.
In the nursery and garden stream you will learn skills in plant propagation, pest, disease and weed management, retail and wholesale nursery skills, customer service and plant establishment and garden maintenance.

Full time: 12 months

Class days and times: Mondays to Wednesdays OR Wednesdays to Fridays 9am-4pm
This is a blended delivery course which will include a combination of online, remote and face to face delivery. Blended learning can involve a range of online programs and resources including StudentWeb, Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex, Skype, specific industry platforms, pre-recorded sessions, assigned reading, tutorials, discussion boards, and online activities. Blended learning also involves face-to-face attendance at classes or practical placements.

After successful completion of our horticulture course you can apply for a range of employment opportunities including that of a horticulturalist, gardener, retail or wholesale nursery or landscaping.
Our horticulture course has significant practical components with a focus on giving you the necessary skills and knowledge to create a successful pathway to employment.
To be eligible you must possess the basic communication skills and a physical ability to perform a practical work placement in the horticulture industry.
PRE-TRAINING REVIEW
To assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs, Box Hill Institute will assess all students’ language, literacy and numeracy and digital literacy by asking you to undertake a self-assessment review prior to the enrolment.
A course advisor will discuss the outcomes of the review and make recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you, and identify additional support where required.
Successful completion of our horticulture course enables you to apply for the AHC50416 Diploma of Horticulture and AHC51116 Diploma of Conservation Land Management
This course is government accredited and has national recognition
The qualification is aligned with the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 3
This training is provided to eligible individuals with funds made available by the Commonwealth and Victorian Governments
