Are you passionate about caring for older people and want to work in one of the fastest growing industries in Australia? This course will help you gain essential, person centred skills and knowledge to care for and support older people living in residential and aged care facilities.

In this health course, you’ll learn how to provide physical and psychosocial support for older people, including how to:

  • support people who may be living with dementia and/or other illnesses
  • provide palliative care
  • prevent falls
  • support independence and wellbeing

You’ll understand how to comply with the accreditation requirements in the aged-care sector. You’ll be ready to deliver outstanding customer service and support to older people.

During our individual support course, you can benefit from the opportunity to do a work placement with leading industry aged care providers.

This training is provided to eligible individuals with funds made available by the Commonwealth and Victorian Governments

Your studies will include a mandatory  minimum of 120 hrs of practical placement in residential aged care settings.

You will be required to provide evidence of: 

  • a current National Police Check
  • immunisations, as required including Catagory A Health care worker

PRE-TRAINING REVIEW

To assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs the Institute and CAE will assess all students’ language, literacy and numeracy and digital literacy by asking you to undertake a self-assessment review prior to the enrolment.

A course advisor will discuss the outcomes of the review and make recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you, and identify additional support where required.

Successful completion will enable you to apply for further studies in related health courses including Certificate IV in Disability, Certificate IV in Allied Health or the Diploma of Nursing.

Recognition of Prior Learning is available.

This course is government accredited and has national recognition

The qualification is aligned with the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 3

After successful completion you may wish to apply for a range of aged care employment opportunities in local government, community organisations and aged care facilities and private nursing homes.
