This IT course is a nationally recognised qualification that will provide you with the foundational skills and knowledge necessary to work in the information technology industry. This is a blended delivery course which will include a combination of online, remote and face to face delivery. Blended learning can involve a range of online programs and resources including StudentWeb, Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex, Skype, specific industry platforms, pre-recorded sessions, assigned reading, tutorials, discussion boards, and online activities. Blended learning also involves face-to-face attendance at classes or practical placements.

Entry Requirements


Prior familiarity with computers and software is not required but is an advantage.

Domestic students must have either: 

  • successfully completed Year 12 or equivalent, or 
  • successfully completed Year 11 and attend an interview, or 
  • be a mature aged applicant, or study scholarships are available to those who already hold higher qualifications

Equipment Requirements

You will be required to have the following equipment at home:

  • an internet connection (preferably high speed)
  • a capable PC with minimum spec of core i5 (or equivalent) Quad core, 8GB or more of RAM and capable of virtualisation
  • compatible headset with microphone and webcam to communicate effectively in classes
  • students may find it advantageous to have a dual-screen setup for your workspace at home
  • computers are supplied in class, but you may wish to bring your own laptop with the recommended specifications as above

PRE-TRAINING REVIEW - to assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs, Box Hill Institute will assess all students’ language, literacy and numeracy and digital literacy by asking you to undertake a self-assessment review prior to the enrolment. A course advisor will discuss the outcomes of the review and make recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you, and identify additional support where required.

Pathways & Accreditation


Successful completion of this course enables you to apply for either the Certificate IV in Information Technology or the Certificate IV in Cyber Security.

This course is government accredited and has national recognition

The qualification is aligned with the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 3
