About the course

Prepare yourself to be job ready for an accounting role in the financial services sector and other industries that require accounting support functions.

In this flexible, self paced accounting course, you’ll learn how to prepare financial reports, design and produce business documents and process financial transactions. As part of your studies, you will set up and operate a computerised accounting system and carry out business and instalment activity statement tasks. You will also learn how to make decisions in a legal context and apply the principles of professional practice to work in financial services.

Career Outcomes


You will gain practical skills for accounting roles with duties such as completing Business Activity Statements (BAS) and other office taxes, operational reporting, producing non-complex management reports, compiling data for job costing reports, supervising the operation of computer based financial systems, classifying recording and reporting accounting information, maintaining inventory records, managing a small office and ensuring relevant legal requirements are followed.

Entry Requirements


You must have at least ONE of the following:

  • successfully completed Year 12 accounting or
  • experience working in financial support roles without formal qualifications - minimum 1 to 3 years work experience

It is highly recommended that you also have:

  • previous financial training or experience, or
  • specific experience in accounting and bookkeeping professional field

PRE-TRAINING REVIEW

To assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs, Box Hill Institute will assess all students’ language, literacy and numeracy and digital literacy by asking you to undertake a self-assessment review prior to the enrolment.

A course advisor will discuss the outcomes of the review and make recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you, and identify additional support where required.

Pathways & Accreditation


After successful completion, you'll have many further study options, including guaranteed entry into a FS50215 Diploma of Accounting. After completion of the Diploma of Accounting, you may wish to apply for entry into the Bachelor of Commerce (Applied) at Box Hill Institute.
