Commence your career in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) with confidence. With our ICT course you’ll gain the essential practical skills and knowledge to work as an outstanding entry level data analyst, programmer or web developer and become an integral part of the global digital revolution.

In this course, you’ll build a foundation understanding of client needs and build content management systems.  You'll also learn all about cyber awareness, programming, web design and database skills. You'll enhance your workplace communication and business skills to communicate confidently with colleagues as well as both internal and external clients, while you work together on simple projects.

This course is offered as a traineeship as well as an on campus course.

Through theory and practical course work, you'll learn to:

  • identify and evaluate emerging technologies and practices
  • integrate databases with websites
  • apply introductory object-oriented language skills
  • monitor and administer databases
  • developing content management system 
  • Understanding ICT needs for clients

Intake Dates & Course Length


Full time: 1 years (usually 2 to 3 days per week)

This is a blended delivery course which will include a combination of online, remote and face to face delivery. Blended learning can involve a range of online programs and resources including StudentWeb, Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex, Skype, specific industry platforms, pre-recorded sessions, assigned reading, tutorials, discussion boards, and online activities. Blended learning also involves face-to-face attendance at classes or practical placements.

Entry Requirements

You must have either:

  • successfully completed Year 12 or equivalent, or
  • successfully completed Year 11 and attend an interview, or
  • be a mature aged applicant, or
  • be a current VCAL student (you can study selected units in conjunction with your VCAL studies)


To assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs, Box Hill Institute will assess all students’ language, literacy and numeracy and digital literacy by asking you to undertake a self-assessment review prior to the enrolment.

A course advisor will discuss the outcomes of the review and make recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you, and identify additional support where required.
