About the course

About the course

If you like to choose your own outdoor adventures, then this course is an ideal choice for you. It will open up career pathways within the outdoor recreation, outdoor education, teaching, sports management, tourism, adventure tourism and international guiding sectors. Your potential employment settings could include the corporate world, education and private enterprise.

To prepare you for the demands of the industry, our course focuses on outdoor activity training to both guide and instructor levels. You will learn specific skills in areas including bushwalking, canoeing, mountain biking, challenge courses (high ropes), risk management, navigation and trip planning. Develop the capabilities required to plan and deliver an outdoor recreation program for a wide range of clients.

This outdoor leadership course is unique as it includes environmental and indigenous units – something not all programs offer.  You'll learn in the beautiful Yarra Valley, surrounded by bushlands, with Lilydale lake at the front door of our Lilydale Lakeside campus.  Our industry partners are located within a 20km radius of the campus. You’ll also gain hands-on, practical experience in bushwalking, canoeing, mountain biking and challenge course (high ropes), and be trained at instructor level.

Make the most of our vast network of supportive employers, industry bodies and employment opportunities to gain practical industry experience and become ‘job ready’ before you finish your course. Gather on-the-job experience and further develop your guiding and instructing techniques within placements in different workplace settings. This way, you will best position yourself for future employment opportunities at the completion of the course.
