Certificate IV in Photography and Photo Imaging
Our photography and photo imaging course will help you discover your passion for the visual image. During the course you’ll develop a wide range of technical skills in photography and photo imaging, including lighting, image capture, process, enhancement, manipulation and output.
As a professional you’ll go on to work in a variety of settings, including the media, retail, commercial, portrait, wedding and art photography.
You’ll gain skills in how to use a digital camera, apply technical, theoretical and historical knowledge of photography, and develop creative concepts and solutions in response to a client brief.
You’ll cover topics including:
- interpreting a brief
- storage and maintainence of finished work
- industry knowledge
- creative thinking
You can take this course as part of a dual qualification with the Certificate IV in Design.

You must have:
- successfully completed Year 11 or
- be mature age
To assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs the Institute and CAE will assess all students’ language, literacy and numeracy and digital literacy by asking you to undertake a self-assessment review prior to the enrolment.
A course advisor will discuss the outcomes of the review and make recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you, and identify additional support where required.
After successful completion, you can apply for entry into the Diploma of Photography and Photo Imaging. If you study this course as part of a dual qualification with Diploma of Graphic Design you may apply for entry into the Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design with an aim to use it as a pathway to further study in a university degree program.
This course is government accredited and has national recognition
The qualification is aligned with the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 4
After successful completion of this course you may wish to pursue career opportunities in a range of professional areas such as retail, commercial, domestic portrait, media, wedding, illustrative, institutional and art photography.
This course comprises 15 units including 10 core and 5 electives.
