About the course

Our photography and photo imaging course will help you discover your passion for the visual image. During the course you'll develop a wide range of technical skills in photography and photo imaging, including lighting, image capture, process, enhancement, manipulation and output.

As a professional you'll go on to work in a variety of settings, including the media, retail, commercial, portrait, wedding and art photography.

You'll gain skills in how to use a digital camera, apply technical, theoretical and historical knowledge of photography, and develop creative concepts and solutions in response to a client brief.

You'll cover topics including:

  • interpreting a brief
  • colour
  • storage and maintainance of finished work
  • industry knowledge
  • history 
  • creative thinking

Entry and Academic Requirements


International students must have an Australian Year 11 or international equivalent with a pass.

PLEASE NOTE: Box Hill Institute only accept enrolments from international students who are 18 years of age or above at the time of course commencement.

English Language Requirements


A minimum IELTS overall score of 5.5 (Academic). A minimum TOEFL score of 530 for paper examination; 179 for computer based and 71 for Internet based.

International students

After successful completion, you can apply for entry into the Diploma of Photography and Photo Imaging.

 

Domestic students

After successful completion, you can apply for entry into the Diploma of Photography and Photo Imaging. If you study this course as part of a dual qualification with Diploma of Graphic Design, you may apply for entry into the Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design and aim to use it as a pathway to further study in a university degree program.

This course is government accredited and has national recognition

The qualification is aligned with the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 4

Box Hill Institute’s Creative Design Hub, located at our Nelson Campus, provides first-class leadership by showcasing best practices, support, and training in the vibrant world of design. The space offers photography and graphic design students the ability to collaborate with aspiring fashion designers, and includes sewing rooms, patternmaking tables, CAD rooms and a photographic studio.
