Aligned with the Cisco Introduction to Cybersecurity course, you will learn how to protect your data and privacy in personal and professional life, and will be able to identify common cyber security threats to networks, machines, applications, data, users and infrastructure. 

With our Cisco Cyber Security Essentials course, you will develop an understanding of how businesses protect their operations from these threats and will learn why more and more IT jobs require cyber security awareness and understanding.

Common and emerging cyber security attacks and techniques are considered during the course. By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • define threat actors, threat vectors and threat goals
  • examine threat vectors such as Phishing, Malware and password attacks along with the nature and motivation of the actors perpetrating the attack or posing the risk
  • describe techniques used by attackers to infiltrate a system
  • identify cyber-attacks on enterprise infrastructure
  • implement methods and identify equipment to protect the data and privacy of individuals and the organisation
  • Identify and access management – user access and privileges

This course is designed to provide an introduction to cyber security for students new to the study area or IT and networking professionals looking to expand their existing skill set.

You have the option to complete the assessment for the unit of competency VU21990 Recognise the Need for Cyber Security in an Organisation. VU21990 is a core unit in the Certificate IV in Cyber Security therefore, upon successful completion, you will automatically receive a credit transfer. 

Alternatively, students who do not wish to complete the assessment can receive an ungraded participation mark.
