About the course

Are you interested in commencing a career in the disability sector?  Do you currently work in the disability sector and wish to complement your existing skills and knowledge? 

This introductory course provides training for people who want to provide services to NDIS participants within the disability sector.

You will develop skills and knowledge in:

  • supporting an NDIS participant to achieve their stated goals
  • working within a human rights framework to ensure NDIS participant personal safety
  • working safely when supporting an NDIS participant
  • completing and processing required documentation
  • working effectively with others

This course is completely government funded, so you will not need to pay to enrol


Our teachers have extensive experience working in the disability sector. All teachers have vocational qualifications in disability studies.

Course Content

To complete the requirements of this course, competency in the unit 'Work Effectively With a National Disability Insurance Scheme Participant (VU22448)' must be demonstrated.

Term 3 Intake A: (6 weeks)

2 classes per week on Wednesday and Thursdays from 5pm to 8pm

  • Wednesday 12 August and Thursday 13 August (5-9pm)
  • Wednesdays – 5-8pm; 19 August, 26 August, 2 September, 9 September
  • Thursdays – 5-8pm; 20 August, 27 August, 3 September, 10 September
  • Wednesday 16 September and Thursday 17 September (5-9pm)
  • Note: final class on Thursday 17 September (includes final assessment) will be 5pm to 9pm

Term 3 School Holidays Intake B: (3 weeks)

A mixture of Term 3 School Holidays and two sessions in the following week.

  • Wednesdays 23,30 September + Wednesday 7 October (9-4pm)
  • Thursdays 22 September + 1 October (9-4pm)
  • Friday 2 October (9-4pm)
  • Thursday 8 October (12-4pm)
  • Note: final class on Thursday 8 October includes final assessment 

Students must identify one of the above intakes prior to enrollment

Due to current COVID19 restrictions this short course will be run remotely, via Microsoft Teams. Students will need to have access to a computer, microphone and camera to undertake this course.


As a general guide to entry, you will be best equipped to achieve the course if you have language, literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) Level 3. 

If you have language, literacy and numeracy skills at lower levels you may require additional support to successfully undertake the course.

Target Audience

This introductory course is suited to:

  • new entrants into the disability sector and provides a pathway to further qualifications
  • individuals employed by an organisation to provide funded services to an NDIS participant
  • individuals self employed and working as a sole trader when directly employed by an NDIS participant to provide funded services to the participant

Learning Pathways

After you successfully complete this course, you may wish to apply for entry into the Certificate III in Individual Support, Certificate III in Education Support, Certificate IV in Disability or the Diploma of Community Services
