Our course covers both residential (involving styling, interior decorating, fabrics and furnishing) and commercial (working in retail, offices, restaurants and hotels) interior design, offering the opportunity to learn advanced technical and practical skills on the finishing and furnishing of interior spaces to meet client needs in order to generate design solutions.

Briefs are set by industry experts to mirror the real-life experiences of an interior designer where the need for space is designed for a particular purpose, and applying problem solving solutions to achieve this end.
Our supportive staff assist you throughout the duration of the course, with a focus on helping you develop strong communication skills and preparing you to enter this dynamic industry. You'll also develop a folio reflecting your individual creativity to showcase to potential employers or clients.

Full time: 12 months (day) or 18 months (evening)
This is a blended delivery course which will include a combination of online, remote and face to face delivery. Blended learning can involve a range of online programs and resources including StudentWeb, Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex, Skype, specific industry platforms, pre-recorded sessions, assigned reading, tutorials, discussion boards, and online activities. Blended learning also involves face-to-face attendance at classes or practical placements.

After successful completion of our interior design and decoration course you can apply for various roles in the industry, including as an interior designer, interior stylist, colour consultant or real estate staging consultant. Employment may be found in retail, consulting or building businesses, where you will perform a broad range of skilled applications in furnishing, including requirements to evaluate and analyse current conditions, develop new criteria and provide guidance to builders, clients and customers direct.

To assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs, Box Hill Institute will assess all students’ language, literacy and numeracy and digital literacy by asking you to undertake a self-assessment review prior to the enrolment.
A course advisor will discuss the outcomes of the review and make recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you, and identify additional support where required.
Direct entry: you must book an interview and present a folio
Recognition of Prior Learning is available.
After successful completion, you can articulate into MSF60118 Advanced Diploma of Interior Design at another Registered Training Organisation or TAFE provider.
This course is government accredited and has national recognition
The qualification is aligned with the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 5
