About the course

Want to study and start your career in the exciting world of professional photography? Enrol in our photography and photo imaging course and you’ll develop the technical and theoretical skills to get started.

You can also take this course as part of a dual qualification with our Diploma of Graphic Design.

You’ll learn to plan, capture and evaluate photographic imagery, apply design theory and develop the ability to critically analyse and synthesise relevant information, plus create your own folio from a range of projects including commercial, domestic portrait, media, wedding, illustrative, institutional and art photography. This folio will help you demonstrate your work to employers and clients.

Entry Requirements


You must have:

If you do not meet the entry requirements for this course, you may apply for the Certificate IV in Photography and Photo Imaging and then reapply for entry into this course.

PRE-TRAINING REVIEW

To assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs, Box Hill Institute will assess all students’ language, literacy and numeracy and digital literacy by asking you to undertake a self-assessment review prior to the enrolment.

A course advisor will discuss the outcomes of the review and make recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you, and identify additional support where required.

VTAC and direct entry 

Year 12 VTAC Applicants must:

  • complete a VTAC application 
  • book an interview
  • present a folio

Direct Entry Applicants (Non Year 12) must:

Recognition of Prior Learning is available.

Pathways & Accreditation


If you study this course as part of a dual qualification with the Diploma of Graphic Design, you can apply for entry into the Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design and go on to further study in a university degree program.

This course is government accredited and has national recognition

The qualification is aligned with the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 5
