Our introduction to veterinary nursing course is for those seeking employment as a veterinary nurse, and pet owners or animal breeders interested in exploring veterinary practice. Throughout the course you will be introduced to basic dog and cat caring skills, and offered insight into the day-to-day role of a veterinary nurse.

The course is comprised of lectures, discussion and demonstrations, with a focus on common pet species.

The main components of the course are introductions to:

  • dog and cat behaviour
  • basic dog and cat health
  • first aid for dogs and cats
  • nutrition for cats and dogs
  • assisting the veterinarian in consultations
  • the veterinary practice
  • the role of the veterinary nurse in surgery and reception
  • how to seek employment

There is no formal assessment in the program. You will be awarded a certificate of attendance if you attend all sessions.
