Personal and Educational counselling is available for all students enrolled at Box Hill Institute and CAE free of charge. The counselling service operates across all campuses. Counsellors work with students individually or through group programs to help them perform at their best and make the most of their studies.

Whether continuing or returning to study, many students experience changes in their personal lives, their careers and the way they think about the future. Understanding and adjusting to these challenges is not always easy.

Some of the reasons students seek counselling include:

  • work or study problems
  • study skills
  • lack of motivation or direction
  • stress
  • depression
  • anxiety
  • loneliness or homesickness
  • loss and grief
  • relationships
  • family difficulties
  • financial pressures
  • drug or alcohol concerns

How long will it take?

A counselling session will normally run for up to one hour. Weekly appointments are often recommended to start with.

Who are the counsellors?

Our counsellors are registered psychologists and social workers who have specific training and experience in personal and educational counselling.

Is it free and confidential?

Yes, the counselling is free for students. Counselling is confidential except in situations where there is a significant risk of harm to you or others. In these situations a counsellor would explain ‘this is really serious and we need to tell someone’. Feel free to discuss how privacy applies with the counsellor if you have any concerns.
