Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate)

I’ve learnt to believe in myself and that I am capable of anything I put my mind to

Our Skill Seekers' Journey_Box Hill InstituteElizabeth Mowat had plans to become a chef and was three units away from completing her Commercial Cookery studies when her life changed. Unable to continue that line of study any further, she developed a love of real estate and decided to pursue that instead. Having studied cookery at Box Hill, it was the logical place for her to study real estate. “I really liked Box Hill because it wasn’t too big,” she said.

Initially, Elizabeth was daunted by the “big and scary” size of the task ahead but she said, “This breaks down to each individual course. The Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate) was easier than I expected. My diplomas were a little more difficult at first but once I got down to it, it was really great.”

Following her Certificate IV, Elizabeth went on to complete a Diploma of Property Management (Agency Management) and then a Diploma of Leadership and Management at Box Hill Institute. She is currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Property and Real Estate at Deakin University.

“Thanks to the great support of Jason Mccutcheon (Box Hill Institute Teacher – Business), I’ve developed some good computer and assignment writing skills. I’ve learnt to believe in myself and that I am capable of anything I put my mind to,” Elizabeth said.

Eventually, Elizabeth would like to open her own Real Estate business but first, she wants to get experience in all the different aspects of real estate.

For others hesitating about going back to study, she said, “If you’re not sure about your skills but really want to do a course, go for it. I wasn’t sure about anything apart from the fact I wanted to do it so I did just jump into it. Make yourself known and ask for the support, because it really is available and they can do so much for you.”

Of her time at Box Hill Institute, she said, “The different people I got to meet and the diversity of people; everyone has their own set of skills and they should be proud. I also have some really great memories and friends from this whole experience.

“I walked into Box Hill to do the second year of my apprenticeship and then continued on to do a Certificate IV in Property Services, my Diploma of Property Management and my Diploma of Leadership and Management. I’m going to really miss Box Hill and all that’s it’s given to me,” she said.
