Student achievements celebrated at Box Hill Institute

The outstanding achievements of Box Hill Institute’s students were celebrated at the 2024 Student Awards ceremony at Fountains Restaurant last week.

There were 14 awards presented to high achievers across the Institute in recognition of outstanding work through academic excellence, leadership, industry service and commitment to learning.

Guest speaker and plumber turned entrepreneur, Aimee Stanton, shared moments from her career journey. encouraging students to continue to aim high and persevere through the highs and lows.

CEO, Grant Radford, said the students’ achievements were testament to their hardwork and dedication.

“Being finalists for these awards is an achievement, and I want you to be proud of everything you’ve accomplished,” said Mr Radford.

VCE Vocational Major student, Mary Spina, was thrilled to be recognised.

“It was an honour to be nominated and win the award. I am grateful for my time at Box Hill Institute, which has given me a pathway into a potential career as a paramedic. I’ve learned that anything is possible if you set your mind to it and work hard,” said Ms Spina.

Abby’s passion for floristry was on display from her first day at BHI, where she helped the team to a bronze medal at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show. Just a few months later, she designed her very own brief for the National Wildflower Competition.

Brodey has already proven himself as an outstanding leader. A constant high achiever with a positive attitude, he embraced the BHI community and culture and was always willing to volunteer when help was required.

Celeste had a remarkable 2023, filled with impressive academic and work-related achievements including part-time employment for the Victorian Advocacy League for Individuals with a Disability (VALID). She attended the Speak Out Disability Expo in Tasmania on behalf of the organisation and spoke about her personal experiences living with a disability.

Leadership is one of David’s great strengths and he took pride in guiding younger students through the challenging parts of the course. He often volunteered to lead group projects, and his maturity and relationship management skills with peers and other stakeholders shone through.

Whether alongside Melbourne’s best chefs at a BHI masterclass or during shiftwork at the Fountains Restaurant, Jake always exhibits a level of maturity and leadership that will see him excel in the hospitality industry. He is calm under pressure and always goes the extra mile to help others around him to ensure the team achieves its goal. 

James is already making his mark on the automotive sector, with his extraordinary passion for the sector leading to work experience with a championship car crew in the United States.

Karen’s aptitude for early childhood education is reflected in the outstanding quality of her coursework and her ability to apply her learning at her workplace. She has received lots of praise for the skills and knowledge she displayed during her kindergarten placement.

Mary has a passion for helping others and has already made her mark in the healthcare industry, impressing staff with her confidence and care as a volunteer with St John’s Ambulance and Ambulance Victoria. She is determined to be a paramedic and has already mapped out her career pathway to achieve her goals. This included concurrent completion of first- and second-year coursework as part of a Certificate III in Allied Health. 

Ondine’s enthusiasm for equine studies was immediately evident to her teachers and was reflected in her outstanding score of 46 on the VCE VET Equine Exam — the highest in the state. In recognition of her achievement, Ondine received a Premier’s Award in 2023.

Seetali’s debut album ‘It’s Not You; It’s Me’ currently has over one million listens on Spotify and is a testament to her outstanding talent as a writer and producer. Seetali has a passion for creating supportive and inclusive team environments, and her album features collaborations with several other BHI students.

From a Certificate III to a Bachelor’s Degree, Sophiya’s education pathway was highlighted by outstanding academic performance and a passion for learning above and beyond her peers. 

Taylah’s dedication, work ethic and knowledge is already impressing her employers at Ferntree Gully Motor Group.

Her outgoing personality shone through in the classroom, and she regularly took the initiative in team activities. She was always willing to share her knowledge and help the other students, and she would often stay back to help the teachers with outstanding tasks before departing for the day.
