Community event to be supported by Suburban Rail Loop Authority

2023-04-27

Box Hill Institute is excited to announce that thanks to the support of the Suburban Rail Loop Authority, we will be hosting a special community event in late 2023.

As a central part of the Box Hill community which we have been serving since 1924, our students and employees will benefit from better public transport connections throughout the eastern suburbs.

We cannot wait to engage with our neighbours and celebrate some special achievements at the community event, and will announce more details later this year.

The Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) is a proposed 90km rail line that will connect every major train service from the Frankston Line to the Werribee Line via Melbourne Airport.

The Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East from Cheltenham to Box Hill, will connect major employment, health, education, and retail destinations in Melbourne's east and southeast. The line will slash travel times, connect people traveling on the Gippsland corridor, and its construction is expected to create up to 8,000 local jobs.

Construction for the SRL East started in June 2022. Trains are expected to be running by 2035.

The new underground Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) station at Box Hill will be one of the busiest and most well-connected stations on the metropolitan network. This will make it easier and faster to access the area's thriving retail, education, and health services.
