Australia’s a cappella Champs are Here

This weekend gone saw home-grown Melbourne band Drums of War ace the Vocal Australia’s Australian a cappella Championship, cleaning up the awards for:

  • 2015 National Champions
  • Best Vocal Percussionist (Jake Colman)
  • Best Soloist (Michael Honey)
  • Best Contemporary Song for Body Count

A new band of six young vocalists, they combine a cappella with hip-hop and R&B to create their unique, toe-tapping style.

Half the band has emerged from Box Hill Institute’s music school, Australia’s largest specialised contemporary music program that consistently produces award-winning talent.

Band member Michael Honey is in the second year of studying Audio Engineering, while Matt Heard is in the second year of the Bachelor of Applied Music. Former Box Hill Institute student and band member Adriana Santoro also completed this Degree.

We’re proud to congratulate Drums of War on their achievement.

If you’d like to check them out, they’re playing at The Toff on 6 October, or sign up at their website for more info.
