The inaugural Box Hill Institute (BHI) Careers Expo was a major success, with over 800 people gathering at Box Hill Town Hall on Wednesday 18 October.
Supported by the Suburban Rail Loop Authority, the first-time event was met with great enthusiasm as a diverse crowd of students and jobseekers attended to seek career information and connect with prospective employers.
Food trucks and a DJ were onsite to provide refreshments and entertainment while attendees engaged with employers and educators from a range of sectors and industry-leading companies including the Australian Defence Force, Eastern Health, RSPCA Victoria, Reese Plumbing and Victoria Police.
Box Hill Institute Cert III Beauty student, Angel, said the Careers Expo provided an opportunity to gain career guidance and develop connections with industry professionals.
“I just finished my Cert III today, and I’m looking at furthering my studies and opening my own salon.”
“[The expo] gives people an opportunity to figure out what they want to do and to be able to meet people that actually do it and get their perspective.”
Whitehorse City Council Mayor, Cr Mark Lane, said he was thrilled to see the enthusiasm from the community for the Careers Expo.
“It’s a great way to connect future employers with the students and prospective students and bring them together,” Cr Lane said.
“It’s great for our community [to see] the range of employers here today and to give them that opportunity is amazing.”
This project received funding from the Victorian Government through the SRL Community Projects Fund.
