Move for Mind Fun Run 2019

2019-08-30

Box Hill Institute’s Sport Development students and Belgravia Leisure will host the 2019 Move for Mind Fun Run at Lilydale Lakeside campus on Sunday, 15 September to raise money for mental health.

Last year, this event last year raised over $10,000 for the Belgravia Foundation/Belgravia Leisure with all money raised going into the local region to support positive mental health programs. The run will feature different distances – 2.5km, 5.0km, 10.0km and a 2.5km walk

In 2019, the aim is to increase this figure to provide increased support for people in Yarra Ranges and the Yarra Ranges Council is a major supporter of the event.

Box Hill Institute’s Sport and Recreation teacher, Simon Carlile said, “Mental health is a major issue in society and we know the benefits of these types of programs can change people’s lives forever. It’s great to see Box Hill Institute showing its support for such a great cause and partnering with prominent organisations in the community.

Box Hill Institute Diploma of Sport Development students are running the Move for Mind Fun Run in partnership with Belgravia Leisure and the Belgravia Foundation, which allows them to establish industry connections in the process.

Belgravia Leisure Community Development Coordinator, Aleksei Bondarenko-Edwards said, “The event enables us to connect to those in the community who experience disadvantaged access to leisure, fitness and their local community.

“We love working with the Box Hill Institute’s students because we can raise much needed funds to support people living with mental health problems and we can to do so by providing a unique learning experience for local tertiary students.”

The Move for Mind Fun Run will lead in to Box Hill Institute’s Lilydale Community Festival and Open Day, which is a great opportunity to check out the campus and learn about the courses offered there.

With free activities ranging from campus tours, workshops, demonstrations, face painting, live music, 3D printing demonstrations and much more, there’s something for everyone!
