Trainee of the Year 2019 - Maggie Alford

2019-08-30

Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing student Maggie Alford has been awarded the 2019 Alan Broadhead Trainee of the Year award. Maggie has a love for animals and has always known she would have a career as a veterinary nurse. She said, “Winning the award was a very special moment. A bit surreal.”

Maggie said that when her name was announced as the winner, it took a little moment for the news to sink in. It was an exciting moment and she was proud knowing that her family were there to support her.

The best thing about studying at Box Hill Institute, said Maggie, is the students and staff. She has also enjoyed the work to study ratio and hands on training, which really prepares students for their career. She said, “Having the ability to attend classes and ask questions and gain face to face feedback made studying a breeze.”

Maggie likes constantly learning something new, an experience she has had throughout her course. She said, “Every day is different. Personally, I have always found the surgical side of nursing the one I am most interested in, so learning anything regarding this topic was great.”

Maggie is thankful for her teachers and classmates, in addition to her family and those who supported her during her studies. She advises other students to study hard and enjoy themselves.
