Box Hill Institute has established an annual Susan Fenton ‘Inspirational’ scholarship to pay tribute to Susan Fenton, a board and staff member for the Box Hill Institute who sadly passed away in 2017.

Susan, graduated as an engineer from Melbourne University, and after a successful local and international engineering career, began working in the vocational sector inspiring students with her enthusiasm as well as excelling at partnering with industry for the best student outcomes. She joined Box Hill Institute in 2011 as a teacher in the School of Foundation and Adult Learning and became our staff-elected Board member in July 2016.

Susan was well-known for her generous community spirit, dedicating 35 years of her life to volunteering with various community groups. Her dedication to the community was recognised when she was awarded the Caroline Chisholm Award.

This scholarship is valued at $2,000 to assist with the reimbursement of their tuition and/or material fees.


This scholarship is for a student who is:

  • A female student enrolled in a Traditional Trade apprenticeship or Building Studies Architecture course
  • Committed to their studies in a traditional trade field
  • Able to inspire other female students to pursue a career in the traditional trades sector
  • An Australian citizen or hold permanent resident status in Australia


Students will be nominated by the Faculty of Trades, Technology & Transport and invited to apply for a scholarship.
