Non-School Leavers

Yes. You can apply directly to Box Hill Institute for many of our courses. Check the relevant prerequisites of the course and if you’re still unsure, register to attend one of our Course Information Sessions.

The last day to submit your application form and confirm your enrolment is Friday, 25 January 2019.

Free TAFE courses have the tuition fee waived but other costs may still need to be paid such as course materials fees or services and amenities fees.  Please check the individual course page for fee details.

If you have received a Letter of Offer to study one of the Free TAFE courses, you will have four weeks to secure your place by finalising your payment. If your offer has expired, please contact the Admissions Team on 1300 269 445.

Free TAFE course places are limited, so it is best to finalise your enrolment as soon as possible after you receive your Letter of Offer.

There’s a lot to take on board at the start of the academic year, e.g. timetables, new people, housekeeping information, but the skills you’ve used in managing your work, family and day-to-day life will be invaluable.

If you feel like studying is all getting a bit too much, you can visit a Student Support Worker who will help you develop strategies or study plans or provide the reassurance you need. You’ll be introduced to your Student Support Worker and other Student Life staff during your first week of study.

All the student computers at Box Hill, Lilydale and at CAE in Melbourne have a program called Text Help installed that allows you to listen to any document or web page on the computer. Any student can use the program and this should help a lot anyone who is a slow reader.

Box Hill Institute’s Skills and Jobs Centre staff can help you find the right career option for you, discuss the job opportunities in this field and the training you will need to do to get there.

Some fees will be cheaper in 2018 and people with a health care card receive a concession rate. We offer payment options that allow you to pay off fees as you study.

Higher level courses are more expensive than certificates but you can defer the cost of these courses until you are working.

You can arrange to meet our Disability Liaison Service before your course starts if you’re concerned about returning to study. Call (03) 9286 9891 to arrange a time to meet.

As a Box Hill Institute student, you are eligible for personal counselling at no cost. You can arrange a confidential appointment by calling (03) 9286 9891.

Yes, the Skills and Jobs Centres can assist you with jobs search skills. The Centres also post a range of industry-specific vacancies from various employers which are accessible to all our students via our student web.  

Yes. Our Careers Counsellors can help with preparing resumes and a Skills and Jobs Centre is located on or near all of our campuses, which can assist you with job preparation.

Yes, the Skills and Jobs Centres located at BHI’s three campuses (Box Hill, City and Lilydale)  can help you make the best decision for you. Drop in or give them a call.

Box Hill Institute offers a range of study abroad opportunities including short exchanges, community service learning projects, project management, study tours, internships, and semester exchanges. See our Study Abroad page for details.

Yes. You can apply for a course through VTAC or apply directly to Box Hill Institute during one of our Course Information Nights.

Yes, if you meet the entry requirements such as an interview or audition. Few courses have a prerequisite and you may get credit for VET subjects that you completed as part of VCAL.

Box Hill Institute offers a range of certificate, diploma and advanced diploma courses that can lead to a degree. We offer degree courses but we also have partnerships with a range of universities and this enables our students to pursue a degree once they have completed their course. You can contact a Careers Counsellor to talk about your plans by phoning Student Life on (03) 9286 9891.  

You don’t necessarily need to have an employer to enter a trade.  A pre-apprenticeship is a great way to get started in a trade and to enter the industry. You’ll gain the basic skills that employers look got when taking on an apprentice.
