Kate Mok – Beauty
Certificate II in Retail Skincare and Makeup
The best thing about Box Hill is that all the teachers are so passionate.
Earlier this year, Certificate II in Retail Skincare and Makeup student Kate Mok worked on a photoshoot for Lord Mayor Robert Doyle and his colleagues, who were so impressed with her work that they gave her bonus.
Kate has always been interested in beauty but completed a taster course at Box Hill Institute last year to make sure she wanted to pursue a career in the industry. Since then she has taken advantage of opportunities for experience that have come her way, including a volunteer role to do makeup for the Children Cancer Institute’s Diamond Ball.
In fact, The Diamond Ball helped her to learn the importance of time management and being very well prepared. She said, “I expected that everyone would show up on time so the service would run as smoothly as possible but people were stuck in traffic so things ended up being far more rushed.”
In the future, Kate hopes to try a bit of everything. She said, “I’d love to gain experience in many different areas of the beauty industry.”
For those considering studying at Box Hill Institute, Kate said, “The best thing about Box Hill is that all the teachers are so passionate about what they do and they will really try to help you get ahead.”
