The VCE VET Automotive program is the industry endorsed program for secondary school students aiming to enter a career in the automotive industry. This training covers the skills and knowledge required to perform minor maintenance and repair of an automotive vehicle.
Topics covered will include the use of workplace tools and equipment, servicing and inspection of engines, transmissions, cooling, fuel, steering, suspension and braking systems, identifying automotive faults, effective workplace communication and customer relation skills.

Applications for VDSS courses are to be submitted directly to your secondary school. The school will then enrol you in the course.
This course can only be completed as part of your secondary school studies in years 10, 11 and 12.

After successful completion, you may wish to continue your studies in an apprenticeship in Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (AUR30620).
This course will give you employment opportunities to start your career as an automotive apprentice.
This qualification may also give you the skills to enter the workforce in the bicycle, marine, motorcycle, heavy vehicle and outdoor power equipment areas.

The VCAA strongly recommends 80 hours of structured workplace learning (SWL) placement over the duration of the program.
Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) is required. Students will be advised of the details of PPE requirements in a welcome letter.
