Applications for VDSS courses are to be submitted directly to your secondary school. The school will then enrol you in the course.
This course can only be completed as part of your secondary school studies in years 10, 11 and 12.

After successful completion, you may choose to apply for entry into the Certificate IV in Music (CUA40920) or our Bachelor of Music.
After successfully completing this course, possible roles could include record producer, studio engineer, music producer, foley artist, sound designer, location recordist or musician.

The VCAA strongly recommends 80 hours of structured workplace learning (SWL) placement over the duration of the program.
There is no specific uniform requirement. It is expected you wear comfortable and suitable clothing for classes.
In the unit Implement Copyright Arrangements, students gain a comprehensive understanding of copyright laws and their application within the music industry. They learn about the principles of intellectual property, including copyright registration, licensing, and infringement. You'll investigate the intricacies of music publishing, royalty collection, and contractual agreements, equipping yourself with the knowledge and skills needed to protect your creative works and ensure fair compensation for your efforts.
In the unit Operate Sound Reinforcement Systems, students investigate the technical aspects of live sound engineering, mastering the operation and management of sound reinforcement equipment. They learn about sound theory, signal flow, microphone placement, mixing techniques, and troubleshooting common issues. Students gain hands-on practical experience in setting up and configuring sound systems to achieve optimal audio quality and balance for different performance environments.
Learn how to effectively manage various types of audio inputs such as microphones, instruments, and playback devices, ensuring that each source is captured and balanced appropriately within the overall mix. Students gain proficiency in tasks such as microphone placement, gain staging, signal routing, and troubleshooting common issues that may arise during live performances. This unit is indispensable for sound engineers in live settings as it equips them with the technical skills and knowledge needed to deliver high-quality sound reinforcement for live events.
