About the course

This blended delivery beauty therapy course provides you with the flexibility to study in your own time and attend practical classes during the day, while undertaking shifts in our fully functioning beauty salon. Specialising in a range of beauty treatments, this course will prepare you for work in a 5-star resort, medi spas, skin clinics, cruise ships and beauty salons. As part of this course you have the opportunity to sit your ITEC exams and become internationally accredited to work around the world using your beauty skills.  

You’ll gain current beauty treatment knowledge and be guided to find your own beauty speciality. While learning how to practice the ancient healing methods of aromatherapy, spa therapies and massage, you'll advance your skills in performing traditional beauty therapy treatments such as waxing, makeup and manicures and pedicures.

In our diploma you'll also learn advanced treatment techniques such as spa, hydrotherapy and wet treatments, massage, specialised facial and body treatments, and microdermabrasion - all while incorporating a holistic approach using a range of professional products and environmentally sustainable practices.

Through supportive guidance from our industry professional trainers, you'll gain a huge amount of new skills and confidence learning in our on campus beauty salon.

Full time: 1 year

This is a blended delivery course which will include a combination of online, remote and face to face delivery. Blended learning can involve a range of online programs and resources including StudentWeb, Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex, Skype, specific industry platforms, pre-recorded sessions, assigned reading, tutorials, discussion boards, and online activities. Blended learning also involves face-to-face attendance at classes or practical placements.

Entry Requirements


You must:

  • be at least 17 years of age
  • have completed Year 11 or equivalent
  • have sufficient literacy, numeracy and visual interpretation skills to successfully complete this course

PRE-TRAINING REVIEW - to assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs, Box Hill Institute will assess all students’ language, literacy and numeracy and digital literacy by asking you to undertake a self-assessment review prior to the enrolment. A course advisor will discuss the outcomes of the review and make recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you, and identify additional support where required.

Pathways & Accreditation


Successful completion of our beauty therapy course will enable you to gain industry experience after which you may apply for further studies in courses including the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Dermal Therapies) or the Diploma of Salon Management (SHB50216).

This course is government accredited and has national recognition

The qualification is aligned with the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 5
