Located 14 kilometres east of Melbourne City, the Elgar campus can be found on Elgar Rd in Box Hill.

Located 14 kilometres east of Melbourne City, the Nelson campus is the second location in Box Hill situated on Whitehorse Road.

Located 15 kilometres east of Melbourne City, the Whitehorse campus can be found on Whitehorse Road in Box Hill.

Our CBD campus is co-located with the Centre for Adult Education in the heart of Melbourne&rsquo;s Central Business District.

Our Lakeside Lilydale campus serves the local community as an active learning centre with a range of vocational and higher education courses. The campus is also home to the Yarra Ranges Tech School.

And cutting is similar to sculpting…you get to see the finished product evolve, which is really cool,” says Jessie.

&ldquo;I&rsquo;ve loved the (hair) colouring and cutting units. Colouring in particular has been really fun. And cutting is similar to sculpting&hellip;you get to see the finished product evolve, which is really cool,&rdquo; says Jessie.&nbsp;
It&rsquo;s obvious that Jessie&rsquo;s talent is multifaceted. While she&rsquo;s currently studying a Certificate III in Hairdressing SHB30416, she&rsquo;s also completed a Certificate III in Makeup and Beauty Services as well as a course in specialised makeup for screen and media, all at Box Hill Institute.
Not forgetting her plans to study barbering, and the visual arts that she pursues in her downtime.&nbsp;
Of her hairdressing teachers, she says, &ldquo;They&rsquo;re really flexible with the course work. In general, being able to discuss what we&rsquo;re learning has been really great!&rdquo;&nbsp;
&ldquo;I&rsquo;m really happy with what I&rsquo;m learning at Box Hill Institute because I can apply it at work and continue learning there as well,&rdquo; she continues.

That&rsquo;s right, Jessie&rsquo;s also trying to get as much professional experience as she can. At the moment, work is a traineeship at Onyx Hair Fusion in Boronia, a salon she personally frequents to get her own hair done. &ldquo;They took me under their wing, which is really nice,&rdquo; says Jessie.
She&rsquo;s also worked at Pitch and Beyond the Valley festivals as a makeup artist in the VIP section, on set for short films and as a bridal makeup artist.&nbsp;
Her dream is to join the film industry or high-end theatre. &ldquo;I saw the Rocky Horror Picture Show not too long ago and will be seeing Moulin Rouge in November&hellip;I know that the makeup and hair is huge in that and it&rsquo;s incredible. One day, I would love to be able to do that.&rdquo;
Jessie feels that her studies have helped her get closer to her goal. &ldquo;The skills I&rsquo;ve learned can be applied to those situations, whether it&rsquo;s cutting wigs or actual hair, making sure that makeup matches complexions&hellip;all of it is adding to my skill set, which I love.&rdquo;
Next year, Jessie is moving to England to study prosthesis for film and television. We look forward to seeing her name in the credits of major productions soon!
