The Apprenticeship Support Officer (ASO) Program is funded by the Victorian State Government and aims to assist young apprentices (aged 15–25) to complete the first year of their apprenticeship.

The Apprenticeship Support Officer (ASO) Program

The ASO program is funded by the Victorian State Government and aims to assist young apprentices (aged 15–25) to complete the first year of their apprenticeship, giving them the best chance of completing their full apprenticeship. Under the program, 28 ASOs are hosted by several TAFEs across Victoria, and Box Hill Institute has four ASOs servicing the geographic region that extends from the CBD out along the North Eastern corridor.

Apprenticeship Support Officers contact apprentices

in the early stage of their apprenticeship to offer mentoring, information and support to apprentices across all trade areas. The ASOs can assist and support apprentices to navigate workplace or training issues including referrals to Fairwork, WorkSafe, Centrelink, Australian Apprenticeship Network providers and the Victorian Regulations and Quality Authority. They can also help with referrals to other support services and provide assistance and support for apprentices who lose their job, wish to change employers or look at a different field of study.

As the geographical regions are based on employer postcodes, the Box Hill Institute ASOs service apprentices attending TAFEs and Registered Training Organisations in our region.

The ASO program has been running for nearly 10 years, supporting thousands of Victorian apprentices each year and it has proven vital support system in the early stages of an apprenticeship. For further information on the program or to speak with an ASO, call our office.
