Jo began by studying a Certificate IV in Youth Work at Box Hill Institute and became so engaged with the topic that she continued on to a Diploma of Youth Work and is now completing a Bachelor of Community Services. Jo said, “When I began studying, I was certain that I only wanted to obtain the certificate and get straight into my career. Again, throughout my Diploma I was certain I wanted to obtain this and begin working as soon as possible. But I loved learning and studying the content and I made the decision to continue onto the Bachelor of Community Services.”
Jo said the course is challenging but it provides a broad knowledge of the community services sector, “Community services can reveal sad stories at times and the statistics have really surprised me throughout the course. The best piece of advice I have ever received is, ‘Don’t take work home with you; leave it at work/school’. This is easier said than done but once you learn how to do this, it is the best thing you’ll ever do,” she said.
Jo’s passion lies in Youth Work and she would love to become a Youth Worker.
