About the course

This VDSS animal care course provides essential skills and knowledge to start your career in animal care. Through this program, you'll learn how to care for a variety of animals and provide information on companion animals, products, and services. You will develop skills in general animal care, including feeding and providing water, and gain hands on experience with mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, fish, reptiles, and regularly attending dogs and cats during practical training sessions. The program emphasises adherence to occupational health and safety procedures in the workplace.

You'll engage in hands on training throughout the year in our animal facility, practicing care for different animals, while complementing this with classroom instruction. Assessments include written assignments and research tasks to be completed outside of class time. Additionally, participation in two full day practical sessions each year is mandatory.

By completing this program, you'll be prepared for entry level roles in the animal care industry, equipped with the fundamental skills and practical experience needed for success.
