About the course

About the course

Box Hill Institute has been training people in the extractives industry for over 40 years. Our courses are developed in collaboration with industry and are supported by members of the Construction Materials Processing Association (CMPA) and the Institute of Quarrying Australia (IQA).

If you are an operator or team leader who currently work in the extractives or quarrying industry, this surface extraction operations course is for you.

This course reflects the role of employees like production operators in an open cut mine or quarry, who perform tasks involving a broad range of skilled applications in a varied work context, using some discretion and judgement in selecting equipment, services or contingency measures.

The course is customised to your workplace. The units explore topics such as environmental considerations, applying risk management processes and working safely. Based on site requirements at the quarry you may select job-specific units such as conduct crushing and screening, conduct weighbridge operations, service and maintain screens to address your training needs. Skill sets are offered as well as the full course.

Box Hill Institute encourages employers to host this training on their site. It allows the students to apply skills in the real workplace environment.

Box Hill Institute offers VOC (Verification of Competency) a method of assessment that assists employers in verifying/confirming the competency levels of employees and contractors who will be required to operate plant and equipment in their workplace.
