When you enrol in our training and assessment program, you'll gain the skills and qualifications required to become a nationally recognised trainer in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. Our experienced TAE trainers will guide you through the process, equipping you with the essential knowledge and professional expertise needed for a successful career in training.

Part time: 40 full day sessions (one day a week) or 80 three hour sessions (two days a week).  

Orientation will be held one week prior to the first session.  

This course is delivered in person at Elgar and City Campuses or online via MS Teams.

Entry Requirements


You must be able to demonstrate vocational competency in your proposed teaching and assessing area. Vocational competency is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience, and may include holding a relevant unit of competency or qualification.

You will need access to a personal computer with working microphone and camera and internet connection. Installed applications must include Adobe Reader, MS Word & Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams and Chrome browser. All Box Hill Institute students can download Office 365 which includes free access to MS Office for the duration of your course. This enables you to access our online learning materials, allows our staff to keep you up to date with all your course information and provides you with ready access to our assessors and trainers.

In order to fulfil the requirements of the course, you must have sufficient digital literacy (practical skills in using information technologies such as internet platforms, MS suite and other applications) to manage and create information required for your course work.

PRE-TRAINING REVIEW - to assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs, Box Hill Institute will assess all students’ language, literacy and numeracy and digital literacy by asking you to undertake a self-assessment review prior to the enrolment. A course advisor will discuss the outcomes of the review and make recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you, and identify additional support where required.

After successful completion, you may wish to apply for entry into TAE50122 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training.

This course is government accredited and has national recognition

The qualification is aligned with the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 4

Units focus on skills, knowledge and practical applications that conceptualise design, development, delivery, assessment and review of learning programs.

  • TAEPDD401Work Effectively In The Vet Sector
    40.0 hours

    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to operate within the vocational education and training (VET) sector regulatory and operational context relevant to the job role of an entry-level VET teacher, trainer and assessor.


    Assessment: Answer a number of short answer questions related to this unit. Participate in a discussion with a group of at least three learners and identify the range of learner cohorts undertaking training. Create a vocational professional development plan to maintain vocational competencies, industry currency and knowledge and create a VET professional development plan to maintain your skills as a trainer and assessor.

  • BSBCMM411Make Presentations
    30.0 hours

    This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to prepare, deliver and review presentations for target audiences.


    Assessment: Answer a number of short answer questions related to this unit. Develop two session plans for two separate presentations. Deliver the two different presentations based on the session plans Obtain documented feedback on each of the presentations.

    40.0 hours

    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to conduct individual and small group work skill instruction using existing support materials and demonstration of work skills as a training strategy; and assess the success of training and one’s own training performance. It focuses on the training being driven by the work process and context.


    Assessment: Answer a number of short answer questions related to this unit. Plan and organise three training sessions to instruct different work skills. Conduct three instruction and demonstration sessions and evaluate and reflect on your sessions. Obtain documented feedback on each of the sessions conducted

  • TAELLN421Integrate Core Skills Support Into Training And Assessment
    30.0 hours

    This unit describes the skills and knowledge needed to identify core skill demands in nationally recognised training products, and in workplace, learning and assessment context tasks and texts. It involves comparing those identified demands with the core skills of learners and candidates in vocational training and assessment and providing integrated core skill support to address the identified gaps.


    Assessment: Answer a series of questions relating to the content of the unit. Determine the core skill levels for a student to complete two different units of competence using the ACSF and Digital Literacy Skills Framework. Develop two simple training and assessment plans covering short-duration sessions to vocational learners and deliver these sessions to these learners.

    This unit covers designing, developing and documenting plans for vocational training. It involves identifying the objectives and intended outcomes of the training and the characteristics of the target learners, selecting nationally recognised training products, developing the plan for training and individual session plans


    Assessment: Answer a number of short answer questions related to this unit. Prepare to conduct 3 consecutive sessions for each different unit of competency Including a range of facilitation techniques and checks for learner understanding, Covering 2 entire units of competency

  • TAEDEL411Facilitate Vocational Training
    45.0 hours

    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to plan, prepare for and facilitate the vocational training of both individual learners and groups of learners via a face-to-face, in-person delivery mode. It includes customising and using existing session plans and learning resources, using these plans to facilitate training, and reviewing own practice


    Assessment: Answer a series of questions relating to the content of the unit. Prepare two sets of face-to-face in person training programs covering three sessions for group training and two sessions for individual training Deliver the three group training sessions and two individual sessions prepared in Task 2 and reflect on the learning process.

  • TAEDEL412Facilitate Workplace-Based Learning
    25.0 hours

    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare for, plan and facilitate workplace-based learning for learners in the workplace. It includes customising and implementing existing learning plans and resources based on products that are nationally recognised or aligned with other recognised frameworks, and reviewing own practice.


    Assessment: Answer a number of short answer questions related to this unit. Develop and facilitate a workplace-based learning plan for three different learners for 30 minutes each Demonstrate communication skills to build rapport with the learners and liaise with required workplace personnel.

  • TAEDES411Use Nationally Recognised Training Products To Meet Vocational Training Needs

    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to analyse and use nationally recognise training products to meet vocational learners’ skill and knowledge development needs


    Assessment: Answer a number of short answer questions related to this unit. Analyse a client’s training needs, prepare and document a training needs analysis and recommended training products, and have your analysis reviewed by a peer and document their feedback.

  • TAEASS412Assess Competence
    50.0 hours

    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to plan, prepare for and conduct the competency-based assessment of candidates using nationally recognised training products and validated assessment tools. It involves planning and preparing for the assessment based on the accessed training and assessment strategy and delivery plan. The unit also involves customising the assessment process; preparing candidates to be assessed; and then implementing assessment processes, including recognition of prior learning. Implementing assessment requires gathering quality evidence, making assessment judgements, and recording and reviewing the assessment process.


    Assessment: Answer a number of short answer questions related to this unit. Plan to assess three different candidates against two or more nationally recognised units of competency. Assess three different candidates which you prepared and planned for in Task 2. Review the assessment process completed and seek feedback from your three candidates.

  • TAEASS413Participate In Assessment Validation
    50.0 hours

    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to participate in the validation of assessment tools, practices and judgements, including in:

    • pre-assessment validation of assessment tools before they are first used with candidates, and post-assessment validation of the tools after having been used to assess candidates
    • post-assessment validation of practices and judgements.

    Assessment: Answer a number of short answer questions related to this unit. You and two other students (your validation team) will validate three assessment tools and hold an initial meeting with a suitably qualified TAE Assessor. Undertake the pre-assessment validation of the three assessment tools with your team from Task 2. Participate in the post-assessment validation of the assessment tools validated in Task 3.

  • TAEDEL405Plan, Organise And Facilitate Online Learning
    40.0 hours

    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to plan, organise, facilitate and review learning that is delivered online, using suitable delivery methods, digital tools and existing learning resources and materials.


    Assessment: Answer a number of short answer questions related to this unit. Plan and organise an online learning environment for synchronous and asynchronous learning. Deliver the two sessions of your e-learning program and review the online learning process with feedback and reflection.

  • TAEASS404Assess Competence In An Online Environment
    40.0 hours

    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to assess candidate/s competence in an online environment. It involves implementing a plan for the assessment process, gathering quality evidence according to the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence, and making the assessment decision. It also involves recording and reviewing the completed assessment process.


    Assessment: Answer a number of short answer questions related to this unit. Prepare to conduct online assessments against an entire or partial unit of competency for the assessment of three asynchronous and synchronous processes. Administer the online assessments planned in Task 2. Review the online assessment process with the three candidates.
