The course consists of four units offered online in block mode delivery.
Three subjects are offered over a four week period, and require the completion and submission of three summative assessment tasks.
Types of assessment tasks in this course include: essays, literature reviews, presentations, reports, writing and teaching lesson plans, and applied research.
You should expect to commit 10 hours per week of study during each teaching block (5 hours of live online classes, and 5 hours of private study activities per week) - around 40 hours per subject. Extra time will be required to prepare assessment tasks. The final subject GCVET102 Applied Research for Vocational Teaching Practice is offered differently, spread over one academic semester to incorporate 200 hours of WIL and an applied research project.
There will be the equivalent of 12 live lecture/workshops in each subject. Although class attendance is encouraged, it is not compulsory as all live classes will be recorded and made available online to students post class.
This unit focuses on how knowledge construction impacts teaching and learning practices in contemporary adult education contexts. Education theories and pedagogies applied in adult learning contexts will be explored to plan and develop effective learning approaches and activities.
This unit introduces students to the design, teaching and assessment cycle in Vocational Education. It examines the development of competency-based training for diverse learner cohorts. Participants will learn about principles of lesson planning and authentic work-related assessment strategies and apply these to create authentic learning experiences. Participants will examine their own curriculum and assessment practices and that of their peers, and propose evidence-based adjustments.
This unit explores diversity and inclusion in an educational context and how to create inclusive learning environments and support for all students. This unit challenges the concept of ‘teacher’ and what informs teaching practice. Strategies and approaches for inclusive learning design and teaching will be investigated to create inclusive learning environments.
In this unit participants will explore the systematic and critical review of literature relevant to a field of study and conduct an applied research project within the context of current vocational teaching practice. The research project proposal will be formally reviewed by an appointed research panel. This unit includes a hurdle task of 200 hours of Work Integrated Learning.
The 200 hours of Work Integrated Learning is undertaken are part of VET teacher's regular teaching duties. It consists of: 50 hours of direct supervision; 50 hours of observing teaching practice; 50 hours of teaching activities, and 50 hours made up of a combination of these.
