The Biosecurity Centre delivers training designed in partnership with, and tailored to, industry needs. Training includes:

  • Bachelor of Biosecurity Science. Australia’s only 3-year bachelor level course dedicated to biosecurity science

  • Introduction to Biosecurity Science. This 13-week short course provides an introduction into biosecurity science and examines how policy, standards and risk management can help to minimise the biosecurity threat to agriculture, the environment, and communities

  • Primary and Secondary School resources. Check out our award winning biosecurity resources for primary and secondary school students. Students are challenged to be a farmer and protect their crops from the threat of Queensland Fruit Fly through a fun and engaging set of on line activities

Research

The Biosecurity Centre delivers industry-led research on how we respond to, and recover from, pests and diseases that threaten Australia’s food, agriculture, and animal health industries, and addresses Australia’s unique environmental-biosecurity needs.

The Lilydale Lakeside campus is uniquely situated in the heart of the Yarra Valley’s berry, fruit and winegrowing region with over 10,000 Ha of crops, and the home to many small to medium sized pig and poultry businesses and a growing equine sector. The Lilydale Lakeside campus is also close to some of Australia’s most accessible temperate rain-forests, State and National Parks and Melbourne’s major water catchments areas.

The research undertaken at the Biosecurity Centre seeks to protect these systems though better understand of the key risks facing industry and, to help address the challenges of protecting our water supplies and environment from the pressures of human’s impact.
