Camorra, Curley and Grossi unite for the first time to support student lives

2022-08-04

Three of Australia’s finest chefs are uniting for the first time, creating a dining experience that raises funds for students experiencing hardship and celebrates the transformative power of education.

Box Hill Institute (BHI) alumni chefs Frank Camorra and Guy Grossi will join friend of the Institute Ian Curley on 11 August at Fountains, BHI’s cutting-edge commercial and training restaurant.

The event will showcase fabulous local wines, beer and produce from the likes of Chalmers, Tahbilk, Brown Brothers, Midfield Union Station Lamb, Cobram Estate Olive Oil, Pepe Saya Butter and Cobb Lane Sourdough bread.

BHI Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Grant Radford said: “With the support of these three great chefs and our other industry partners, it promises to be a memorable night that will make a real difference to the lives of our students in need.”

Ian Curley is looking forward to cooking with his culinary mates.

“Becoming a chef changed my life,” he said. “The three of us are donating our time so that we might afford someone the chance for education and training to change their life, too.”

Food writer Dani Valent will emcee the event which will also highlight the skills of BHI’s culinary, music, fashion and floristry students; some of whom have peers in financial hardship.

Guy Grossi said the fundraising dinner not only supports students doing it tough but is also a great opportunity to work alongside the chefs of the future.

“Education is vital to success in your chosen industry and for people experiencing financial or personal difficulties there are barriers to being able to study,” he said.

“The Box Hill Institute Student Hardship Fund has been set up to enable those in unfortunate circumstances the avenue to study and become their dream”.

Frank Camorra said every dollar from tickets purchased will go directly to the fund for students in need. “Funds raised go towards course fees and materials. For example, for an apprentice chef the scholarship goes toward the cost of knives, uniform and other vital tools of the trade,” he said.

Tickets are $200 and a limited number are still available. Attendees can meet the chefs, receive three courses with matched wines, beer, sparkling wine and canapes on arrival, and entertainment.
