In this commercial cookery apprenticeship, you'll master a wide range of cooking techniques and gain a solid understanding of kitchen operations. You'll be empowered to prepare delicious food and create mouthwatering menu items with confidence, using your discretion and judgment.

Throughout your journey, you'll work with a degree of independence, guided by well structured plans, policies and procedures. By completing this qualification, you'll be well on your way to becoming a recognised trade cook.

At our cooking school, you'll get hands on experience making bread, filleting fish, crafting menus, and cooking specialty dishes based on recipes from award winning chefs. Entry Requirements


You must be employed as an apprentice Chef in a commercial kitchen and have a registered training contract through an Apprenticeship Network Provider (ANP). 

PRE-TRAINING REVIEW - to assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs, Box Hill Institute will assess all students’ language, literacy and numeracy and digital literacy by asking you to undertake a self-assessment review prior to the enrolment. A course advisor will discuss the outcomes of the review and make recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you, and identify additional support where required.

APPRENTICESHIP ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 

To apply for this course, you must also be registered with an Australian Apprenticeship Support Network Provider and have a training contract with an employer.

Successful completion will enable you to apply for:

  • Certificate IV in Kitchen Management
  • Diploma of Hospitality Management
