A Fulfilling Career in Education Support

2020-09-08

Andy Fearns is the Education Support Teacher at Box Hill Institute. After completing an Early Childhood Education qualification, she gained 15 years’ experience working with children and a further ten years’ teaching. Her growing interest in supporting children in the next stage of their development led to her to complete a Certificate III in Education Support. After working in the industry, Andy is now focused on sharing the knowledge, experience and passion for education support.

Andy said, “The Certificate III in Education Support appeals to a range of people and is particularly popular for those returning to work or looking for a career change. The course can be completed in five months of full time study and requires no prerequisite qualifications.”

Andy believes that if you enjoy working in a school environment, supporting teachers and are passionate about working with young people to improve their educational outcomes, the Certificate III in Education Support is for you.

After completing the course, graduates typically work as a teacher aide, integration aide or education support worker with options to work in settings such as a kindergarten, primary or secondary school. Andy said a career in education support can be immensely fulfilling and provides a unique and rewarding opportunity to work with children to overcome their difficulties and realise their potential.

At Box Hill Institute, the team bring and share a wealth of industry and life experiences. Andy said, “Coming to class is about learning and gaining knowledge, and not just about teaching from a textbook.” The thing Andy enjoys most about teaching is watching her students develop their skills, grow in confidence and put their knowledge into practice when they go on placement.

If you have great communication skills, patience and empathy and professionalism, you’ll do extremely well.
