Age is No Barrier

2019-11-26

Wendy is a proud 75-year-old grandmother and currently enrolled in our cabinet making course.

On her 75th birthday, Wendy wrote out a list of all the things she wanted to achieve before she reached 80, which included making a letterbox and bookcase.

After visiting Box Hill Institute on Open Day, Wendy decided it was time to get a move on and enrolled in the course to learn the skills she needed.

"Time is precious! Gotta do what you wanna do!" she said.

A former special education teacher for over 20 years, Wendy places great value on education.

She is in awe of her classmates describing them as "fantastic and stimulating".

Wendy is also full of high praise for her teachers, John Waters and Ross Barden.

"They are patient, don't rush me and are very supportive," she said.

Ross and John are impressed by Wendy's willingness to try anything and her determination to learn and to gain new skills.

John said, "Wendy is an enthusiastic learner and curious about everything. When she is doing her work, she is focused on it throughout the whole day."

Wendy's advice for those wanting to learn new things? "Don't give up."
