Kristina De Francesco got her first taste of early childhood education and care in high school whilst she was studying a vocational education and training delivered to secondary students (VETDSS) course at Box Hill Institute. She went on to complete further units to obtain a Certificate III qualification and gained employment as a kindergarten assistant to start her career journey.

Fuelled by an increasing interest and passion in the sector, and extremely gratefully for “the amazing Box Hill teachers that offer endless amounts of support”, Kristina enrolled in the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care at Box Hill Institute. The off-campus delivery mode was a perfect fit for her. She said, “Box Hill Institute offered me the flexibility of working and studying at the same time. It was perfect to be able to build and develop necessary skills and put them into action at work.” 

Kristina says the diploma was essential to helping her further develop skills that are necessary when working with other educators, families and most importantly the children. Following completion of the course, she couldn’t wait to start her next goal of becoming a registered Early Childhood Teacher. Students completing the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care at Box Hill Institute are guaranteed a position in the bachelor’s degree course. 

The unique bachelor’s degree structure allows students to continue working whilst completing studying. Kristina said, “I am excited to be able to do this with Box Hill Institute and put into practice my newly learned skills at my workplace as I study.”
